From Teenage Mother to Change Maker
Christine Akello’s Journey

Story of Change

Christine Akello Omondi joined STADA Kenya in 2021, but her connection to the organization began earlier as a participant in the Teen Mothers Program. After hearing about STADA through a village elder, Christine sought support at a time when life felt uncertain and overwhelming.

Becoming pregnant at the age of nineteen meant her dreams of joining college after completing her KCSE were put on hold. With limited opportunities and growing responsibilities, Christine faced the reality many young mothers encounter: financial hardship, stigma, and few pathways forward.

Challenge

Like many teenage mothers, Christine struggled to rebuild her life after early pregnancy disrupted her education. Without stable income or professional skills, meeting her own needs and those of her young son was a daily challenge. The lack of support systems left her vulnerable and unsure of what the future would hold.

Solution

Through STADA Kenya’s Teen Mothers Program, Christine found more than support — she found opportunity. She began volunteering as an Office Administrator, gaining hands-on experience, confidence, and workplace skills. Recognizing her commitment and growth, STADA later offered her permanent employment.

Today, Christine earns a stable income that enables her to care for herself and her son with dignity. Her journey reflects STADA’s belief in empowerment, second chances, and community-led transformation.

Impact

Christine’s story is a powerful reminder that when young mothers are supported, entire families and communities benefit. Her message to others is one of hope and strength:

“To all young mothers out there, do not lose hope. Be strong and remember that life must continue, even through the hardest moments.”

Christine is not just a beneficiary — she is a change maker, contributing to the mission of STADA Kenya and inspiring others to rise beyond adversity.
