Amplifying the Voices of Young Mothers in Kisumu County
Executive Director’s Message

Patricia Nudi Orawo

At STADA Kenya, we see the stories that often go unheard: the resilience, courage, and determination of young mothers who face enormous challenges. Many of these girls, aged 13 to 19, become mothers while still in school and entirely dependent on caregivers. Some are pushed into early motherhood through abuse, coercion, or economic hardship. Others struggle to meet basic needs like food and sanitary products, often without support from family or community. These young mothers face social exclusion, repeated gender-based violence, and lost opportunities—but their strength and resolve inspire us every day.

In response, STADA Kenya has created safe spaces, psychosocial support, and economic opportunities that allow young mothers to reclaim their lives. We have walked alongside them to provide education, vocational training, and community programs that empower girls to thrive despite adversity.

At the same time, STADA Kenya is entering a bold new season of growth and impact. With a fresh leadership structure, including a new Chief of Staff and dynamic program officers, our team is stronger and more focused than ever. Our STADA Pads program continues to fight period poverty, participating in global forums like the ISO/TC 338 Menstrual Products Meeting in Nairobi, demonstrating our commitment to quality, dignity, and sustainable production.

We are expanding our reach through partnerships both locally and internationally. Collaborations with organizations like SewLove have created jobs for young people, while exchanges with Life Water Canada in Liberia have strengthened our technical skills in WASH programs, including repairing pumps and drilling boreholes. Our local communities have benefited directly:

Through these efforts, we are building a movement that shows what’s possible when communities believe in women, when girls are supported to rise, and when partnerships are rooted in purpose. Every story of transformation, every life changed, reminds us that the work is far from over—and yet, the rhythm of progress is unstoppable.

We invite you to read the stories of the young mothers we serve. Their courage, resilience, and determination are at the heart of STADA Kenya’s mission. They are not just surviving—they are leading, inspiring, and transforming their communities.
