World Water Day is commemorated annually on March 22 to raise awareness about the importance of clean and safe water for all. At the core of STADA Kenya’s work is the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program, through which the organization drills boreholes and supports communities to access reliable and safe water sources. This work is deeply connected to STADA’s commitment to gender equality and justice, as women and girls are often responsible for fetching water at the household level, exposing them to time poverty, health risks, and insecurity.
In 2024, STADA Kenya commemorated World Water Day at Rongo Comprehensive School, bringing together students, staff, and community members to reflect on the critical role of water in building peaceful and resilient communities. The day began with a vibrant live band procession from the STADA office to the school, creating awareness and mobilizing the community around the importance of water access.
At the school, students led lively entertainment sessions showcasing their talent and creativity, setting the stage for meaningful engagement. This was followed by speeches and interactive discussions centered on the 2024 theme, “Leveraging Water for Peace.” The conversations emphasized how equitable access to water can reduce conflict, improve health and education outcomes, and strengthen social cohesion.
The commemoration concluded with a tree-planting activity, reinforcing the link between water conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Through this event, STADA Kenya strengthened community awareness, promoted youth engagement, and reaffirmed its commitment to using water as a pathway to dignity, equality, and peace.
